Videri was initially designed for the art world (read our blog) and as a result, from the very beginning Canvas packaging was also created to be efficient in materials and size. However, it also needed to be built with the maximum strength and weight needed to protect the Canvas while shipping to homes of art-lovers globally. Shipping needed to be as economical as possible, yet the packaging needed to withstand the bumps and bangs incurred on the way so that the Canvas arrived completely intact!
Beyond our early days in the art world, one of Videri’s later enterprise customers had very unique use cases for the product that would eventually become it’s go-to. A true innovator, this retailer pushed Videri Canvas use over the years to all its limits, and then still finds new ways drive new value. It’s this spirit of partnership in innovation, in product but also in packaging design, that has helped influence the evolution of the Videri Digital Canvas that we have today.
Videri Packaging Drives Circular Economy
This retailer not only ships Videri Canvases to tens-of-thousands of brick-and-mortar locations around the globe, but they also keep an inventory of them for events. Canvases are shipped various distances, multiple times a year and all in the original Videri Boxes that we manufacture. They don’t add padding, and they don’t buy heavy-weight cases that drive hefty shipping costs. They put the Videri Canvas back in its original box, and they ship it to the next show. They call it a “smart-box”.
For Videri, building a circular economy is in our DNA and is part of our mandate to be as easy and efficient as possible. The fact that our sustainable packaging can also be leveraged for a circular economy motivates the team to keep pushing the boundaries of innovation.
But wait, it gets even better! Under the helm of Keith Knight, Videri’s Vice President of Sustainability and Global Supply Chain, and certified as a Chartered Sustainable Supply Chain and Logistics Professional, Videri has been evolving even more. Keith is focused on implementing sustainable practices in our Spark Canvas and accessories packaging, as well as through our global supply chain – toward the goal of carbon neutrality.
Over the course of 2024, Videri packaging has been completely transformed into a fully recycled and recyclable selection of components. Designed to contain as little plastic possible yet continue to provide the stability and structure needed to protect the Canvas though repeated shipping, Videri’s EnviroCap® packaging is 100% recyclable with average plastic per box reduced from its original 10% of total packaging to its current less than 1%. Not only that, but all corrugate used in our packaging is made from 65% to 75% recycled material.
“This transition to eco-friendly packaging is just part of a larger initiative to achieving carbon neutrality, but it’s a giant step toward sustainability which is becoming more important to our customers, our community and our stakeholders.”
The advantages of Videri’s new packaging over its previous styrofoam-based packaging are many:
- Reusable components for repeated shipping
- Removes toxicity from contents
- Eliminates plastic and styrofoam
- Provides for 100% recyclable package
Sustainability is in Videri’s DNA. Our view of sustainability goes beyond our core product to supporting the circular economy we all want, and need. One that makes recyclability, re-use and larger goals of reaching carbon neutrality, a priority. That not only means the Videri Platform delivers inherent value through its easy, interoperable approach to digital signage, but we support customers in meeting their sustainability goals by providing a product that sets a new standard in the industry.
