First Videri Wall in Ireland captures the Brown Thomas audience – by Focal Media

Focal Media

Since they launched in 2001, Focal Media has grown into a premium point-of-sale & media provider with happy customers across the island of Ireland, North and South. As economic tides and technology shifts occurred, Focal Media had their pulse on the need for change in the world of digital displays. Between the post-covid resumption of in-store shopping and the need for displays that “wow” their audience, and the rapidly expanding sustainability regulations in Europe, Focal Media has always been one step ahead of the next technology trend.

From day one Videri resonated with their goal of modernizing digital signage in anticipation of the needs of their customers. Here we are a short time later with the first ever orchestrated Videri Wall installed in Brown Thomas at their flagship department store in Dublin, and customers are loving it!   “We are selective with our product line” says Keith Hanley, Account Director at Focal Media. “We only take on new technologies when they have something unique to offer our customers (across all industries, not just retail). Videri’s unique sizes, their focus on low energy use and sustainability, and their easy-to-use platform is a perfect fit for our customers looking to boost performance in their brick-and-mortar locations, whether they are looking for more customer engagement, to increase sales or drive brand awareness.”

Brown Thomas

A landmark on Grafton Street in the heart of the capital’s shopping district, Brown Thomas Dublin is Ireland’s most beautiful lifestyle store and is treasured as much by the locals as it is by international visitors. “Customers love their personal experience at our experiential store, and we’ve ensured that our digital channels support this in-store experience.” Donald McDonald, Managing Director of Brown Thomas.

Like most businesses today, sustainability is a key metric for Brown Thomas. Their ambition is not just to provide more sustainable products to their customers, but to “inspire a wide adoption of sustainable lifestyles while blazing a trail of circularity and sustainability in a luxury context.”1

Sustainability Matters

With the Mandatory Sustainability Reporting that was introduced by the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD), more businesses in Ireland are required to report on what sustainable practices they are implementing to meet the ESG requirements. From 2021 to 2024 the number went from 11.7K to 49K – a 318% increase in volume.2

“Our customers are looking for beauty and impact, but also sustainability. Videri’s displays use up to 50% less energy and their sustainable, reusable packaging* will help businesses to meet their environmental targets,” said Hanley. “Videri’s backlight scheduling and other controls help reduce energy even further. We are thrilled to offer our customers Videri’s innovative and beautiful displays to help them increase customer engagement and drive product performance, all while helping them reduce their carbon footprint.”

Edge-Lit TVs are on the hot seat. How does Videri keep its cool?

In a recent study by RTING, edge-lit TVs were identified as prone to significant durability issues due to concentrated heat which caused “uniformity problems” such as warped reflector sheets, cracked light guide plates, and burnt-out LEDs. The study concluded that these TVs posed a significant risk to long-term reliability. When it comes to thin digital displays, heat dissipation is paramount to the longevity of the product. No one knows that better than Omar Barake, SVP of Hardware and Engineering at Videri. We asked him how Videri kept its cool.
