Lean and green: advancing sustainability goals and your bottom line.

Talk of sustainability is nothing new to the pro AV industry, let alone the world. But embracing, implementing, and adopting sustainable practices isn’t always easy and as a result, the AV community is behind. With many organizations now requiring proof of sustainability actions not only internally, but from their vendors as well—it’s time to catch up.

Sustainability in AV, specifically in digital signage, refers to the full lifecycle of display products organizations are deploying and using in any space, whether that be the workplace, a retail storefront, or even a live event. Where were the parts sourced? Are they recycled once they have reached the end of their useful life? Is the product designed with energy and eco-friendliness in mind?

In and of itself, the use of digital signage over traditional paper advertising can contribute to a greener world as well as a greener bottom line. Between 2001 and 2019, over 950 million acres (about twice the area of Alaska) of forest were lost globally, representing an almost 10% decrease in tree cover since 2000. Of this, 42% went to paper production including static signage like posters and flyers.1 Similarly, although declining, the worldwide spend on printed advertising is still projected to total about $50 billion in 2023.2 Certainly not chump change, if you ask us.

Not only does digital signage reduce paper consumption, but it also reduces the use of power and CO2 emissions. Videri’s Digital Canvas, with its elegant and bleeding-edge hardware design, requires lower electricity consumption than typical display options, and captures your target audience to increase conversion rates—all while reducing your carbon footprint. In addition, Videri’s leadership in device management software ensures there is minimal need for local site visits, with 1 to 100,000 displays efficiently managed from a single portal.  Tamper-proof with no external ports, Videri Canvases stay up and running  without the possibility of local interference. Furthermore, our software and software services ensure your platform is always up-to-date and running optimally, reducing the need to rip-and-replace in the future.

As a provider of digital signage products and services, we at Videri take our part in sustainability very seriously. It’s just as important to us as it is to our clients and partners, and we take extra steps to ensure we are not only meeting their requirements, but exceeding industry standards. Still, we understand that selling digital signage products is not enough to call ourselves “green.”

Ensuring we implement green practices throughout the entire lifecycle of product manufacturing, shipping and disposal, the Videri team takes steps that meet both legal requirements of countries we work within, as a minimum, as well as continually improve our environmental performance and carbon footprint.

Edge-Lit TVs are on the hot seat. How does Videri keep its cool?

In a recent study by RTING, edge-lit TVs were identified as prone to significant durability issues due to concentrated heat which caused “uniformity problems” such as warped reflector sheets, cracked light guide plates, and burnt-out LEDs. The study concluded that these TVs posed a significant risk to long-term reliability. When it comes to thin digital displays, heat dissipation is paramount to the longevity of the product. No one knows that better than Omar Barake, SVP of Hardware and Engineering at Videri. We asked him how Videri kept its cool.
