The origin of the Videri Digital Canvas is unique. It was first inspired by artist, Henning Lohner, a well-known German American composer, artist, and filmmaker, and founder of a global digital art marketplace. 13 years ago, he was searching for a digital “canvas” on which to display digital art. With SoC technology being used so successfully in mobile phones and tablets, the obvious solution was for Videri to pioneer using SoC technology in digital displays – even though it was not on the radar for other manufacturers at the time. And most of them are still trying to catch up.

This consolidation of components offered several critical advantages for the Videri Canvas, including reduced power consumption, smaller (self-contained) form factor, improved performance.
“We needed an all-in-one solution. SoC displays integrate the media player functionality directly into the Videri Canvas, eliminating the need for a separate media player box, reducing hardware costs and simplifying installations,” says Mike Ungerleider, Videri’s VP of Technical Sales.
Essentially, the SoC is the brain of the Videri Canvas that handles all the computational tasks. Everything from managing the Android operating system, to enabling schedule, to detecting when the Cavas powers off. “SoCs connect to other components too, such as cameras, RAM, flash storage, and much more. Using SoC enabled us to provide the sleek, flush-mounted Canvas design that we were looking for, but also the flexibility to deliver scheduling and management features that were previously unheard of in the market,” says Ungerleider.
